ABU DHABI: Pakistan’s Hassan Ali and Yasir Shah snatched a wicket each in 20 overs of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Sheik Zayed stadium of Abu Dhabi on the main day of the match.
Sri Lanka commander Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and chose to bat first against kindred South Asian opponents. In any case, the guests lose two early wickets of JK Silva and Thirmanne to Hassan Ali and Yasir Shah inside 20 overs of the match.
Pakistan has handled three pro seamers in Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, and Mohammad Abbas, and just spinner Yasir Shah. Haris Sohail has made his debut and Sami Aslam was the other batsman to enter the playing XI in the first Pakistan Test which will be played after retirement of notable twosome Misbah-Ul-Haq and Younis Khan.
Pakistani captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who will make his introduction as Test skipper, is certain that his team predominantly containing youthful players, will adapt to the nonappearance of two cricket legends after their retirement. The Pakistani captain conceded that it will be difficult to supplant them.
Tending to a presser yesterday, Sarfaraz Ahmed said that he has learnt a great deal from Misbah and Younis, including: “The camaraderie’s is great. The arrangement will be a decent presentation for everyone. It will be the first run through in some years that we have an exceptionally youthful team taking the field.”
