Shahid Kaghan Abbasi is elected New Prime Minister of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday chose PML-N’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as the eighteenth prime minister of Pakistan following the exclusion of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court a week ago.

Abbasi, the favored contender to win, cleared the decision with a lion’s share vote. He got 221 votes.

Abbasi has been chosen as an interim leader and will hold the post till the race of occupant Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the National Assembly.
