We will shut down country’s oldest nuclear Plants, Spain says

MADRID: Spain will for all time close the maturing atomic power station Santa Maria de Garona, the Energy Minister Alvaro Nadal said on Tuesday, clarifying that the closing down of the 466 megawatt (MW) reactor would have no impact on the Spanish power framework.

The atomic reactor, situated in the northern area of Burgos, has not been dynamic since 2012 and is the most seasoned atomic power station in Spain at more than 40 years.

Garona is controlled by Endesa and Iberdrola which in 2014 asked for an expansion of the permit to 2031
